Who is the Casual Somm?
I'm Karen, otherwise known as Chief Executor of all Things Casual. Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, I moved to Colorado to attend undergrad at Colorado College and have been in the wonderful city of Denver ever since. After a brief foray into the tech industry, I wasn't truly fulfilled and left after 3 years to work at a local wine shop. I believed myself to be answering a calling and many years later, I'm glad I took the leap. I've worked for a local urban winery, traveled abroad to work the wine harvest in both New Zealand and France, and most recently represented a portfolio of fine wine and spirits for a Colorado distributor. Throw on a few wine courses and ta-da! Official wino die-hard.
Throughout my experience in this industry, I've always wanted to close the gap between the world of wine and your Average Joe. Wine is an amazing nexus of history, culture, geography, agriculture, language, history, legalities and cuisine (need I go on?). Its story shouldn't be reserved for the crazy few who choose to devote their lives to it. Wine deserves to be celebrated by all, hence a need for The Casual Somm. I like to break it down, layman's terms, in a laid-back, anything goes, easy-going kinda of way. I'm excited to share my passion with you!
